Hydration smoothie calculator
Pick your ingredients and see roughly how much fluid the blend adds toward the day, and which ingredients are bringing the electrolytes.
Good electrolyte base. Coconut Water, Frozen Banana bring potassium. After heavy sweat, a small pinch of salt adds the sodium that fruit alone does not.
A rough guide only, not medical advice. Fluid needs vary with your size, the heat and how hard you are working, and a smoothie is one contribution among water, food and other drinks across the day.
Drinking your water without drinking water
Most fruit and vegetables are mostly water, which is the quiet reason a smoothie hydrates at all. Lean the blend toward the watery ingredients, coconut water, cucumber, citrus and juicy fruit, and it contributes real fluid on top of everything else it does. Add the potassium that comes with them and a pinch of salt when you have been sweating, and a smoothie earns its place in a hot-weather or post-exercise routine.
Strawberries, melon-like tropical fruit and citrus are most of the way to water by weight, so they hydrate while they flavour. A smoothie built on them counts toward your fluid for the day, not just your food.
It brings potassium along with the fluid, which is why it turns up in so many hydrating blends. Use it as the liquid base and you have covered one of the main electrolytes without a powder.
Fruit and greens are rich in potassium but low in sodium, and sweat takes sodium out. After a hot or hard session, a small pinch of salt in the blend does what the fruit cannot.
Blended fruit and greens genuinely add fluid, but they are one part of the day alongside water, food and other drinks. Treat a hydrating smoothie as a boost, not the whole plan.
