How much does a smoothie cost?
A smoothie bar charges $6–$9 a cup. Make the same drink at home and see what it actually costs you per serving — with the full nutrition for it alongside.
Totals below are per serving 1
About $1.70 a serving at home. A smoothie-bar version of the same drink runs $6–$9 — this batch of 1 costs $1.70 total.
What a smoothie costs to make at home
Making it yourself costs a fraction of buying it, and the fruit is not where the difference sits. A counter is charging you for someone else’s labor, rent and cleanup; the ingredients are a small part of what you hand over. Four real blends, priced per serving.
Ingredient cost only, one serving each, at typical US supermarket prices. Yours will differ — put in what you actually paid and the calculator reprices it.
The spread across those four runs from $0.80 at the cheap end to $2.60 for the loaded protein one, and all of them sit under what the same drink costs over a counter. The lever is not the fruit. It is protein powder, nut butter and anything with “boost” in the name.
Where the money actually goes
Frozen fruit is cheaper per serving than fresh before you account for anything, and it does not rot in the drawer. Most of the money people lose on homemade smoothies is fruit they bought with good intentions and threw away nine days later.
You pour a full cup of it every single time. Water is free, own-brand milk is close to it, and the premium nut milks cost several times as much for a drink where you cannot taste the difference under a cup of frozen fruit.
Protein powder, almond butter, chia and cacao all look cheap on the shelf and expensive per serving. If you use them daily they are the line to shop around on; if you use them occasionally they barely register.
Portioning a big bag into freezer packs on a Sunday means you buy in the size that is cheap and use all of it. The freezer pack calculator lays out the week.
Counting the calories as well as the cost?
The nutrition calculator takes the same blends and gives you calories, protein, carbs, sugar and fat for the serving you are pouring.
