Smoothie shelf-life & freshness planner
How long a smoothie lasts depends on what is in it. Pick your ingredients and when you will drink it, and get a drink-by window plus a freeze-ahead verdict.
Drink this one soon. Banana and avocado oxidise fast, so the flavour and colour are best within a couple of hours.
What actually decides how long a smoothie keeps
A smoothie does not have one shelf life, it has as many as it has ingredients. The fruit oxidises, the greens wilt, the dairy sets its own clock, and the fastest of those is the one that governs the drink. That is why a berry-and-oat-milk blend keeps happily overnight while a banana-and-yogurt one is best within the hour. The planner takes the shortest-lived ingredient in your blend, layers on how quickly the whole thing browns, and gives you a window you can actually trust.
Most of what goes wrong is oxidation, not bacteria. Store a made-ahead smoothie in a jar filled right to the top so there is almost no air, seal it tight, and keep it in the body of the fridge rather than the warmer door shelf.
These two brown and separate faster than anything else in a blend. If your smoothie leans on either, treat it as a same-day drink, or add a squeeze of lemon and accept that the colour will dull by morning.
For a week of smoothies, freezing raw fruit-and-base packs beats freezing finished smoothies. Yogurt, plant milks and soy come back grainy once blended and frozen, while a raw pack blends up fresh every time.
Settling and a colour change are normal after a few hours and a good shake usually fixes them. Trust smell and taste over looks, and when a dairy or fresh-fruit smoothie has been warm or sat too long, pour it out.
Batching a whole week?
Once you know what freezes well, the freezer pack calculator scales one bag into a month of packs and gives you the shopping list in weights and cost per smoothie.
